Business description | Located on a 144 hectare site at Mickleham, north-east of Melbourne, the PEQ is intended to be the sole quarantine facility for all plants and animals entering Australia. As well as holding facilities for various kinds of plants and animals, the facility has PC2 and QC3 laboratories for tissue testing and research |
Project Scope and Responsibilities | BIO Construct Pty Ltd were contracted to design, construct and test the PC2 and QC3 containment laboratories located within the new avian facility. The 2210sqm facility is comprised of five independent QC3 facilities with supporting lab spaces. These suites were constructed using the Dagard SI panelling system and concrete. BIO Construct were responsible not only for the Dagard installation works but also for design and co-ordination of services penetrations, specialist equipment procurement and installation as well as a fully integrated BMS system. |
Key highlights/ challenges | Testing a facility of this size to AS 2243.3 appendix H was a key challenge due to the size and complexity of the facility. All areas passed well under the maximum allowable air leakage rate first time, the likes of which have never been successfully done before in Australia. |
